23.07.08 : FootballHeads 8 - 1 Only Fools

A sensational opening game of the season for the FootballHeads saw them cruise to an emphatic 8-1 victory over only fools. Manager Pannell couldnt have asked for a better start from his boys as he saw them demolish their opposition.

Ricky Gill was first on the scoresheet for the Reds, the hotshot pounced early in the game to slot a neat right footed side foot over the Only fools keeper after a nice lay off from Ross Webster.

Only fools replied next when their striker slotted past an impressive Robbins in goal.

Matt Hughes was next to punce as he drove Luke Mayes lay off into the net to make it 2-1.

Ross then turned to scorer as Pannell, after some neat trickery and footwork squared a ball to to the oncoming Webster who powerfully smashed the ball home. 3-1

HALF TIME

The Reds came out and almost instantly made it 4 when Gill once again proved his striking prowess. Webster set him up but his first strike was blocked but he then smashed the rebound home with his left foot. 4-1

On came the returning Dan Mayes who after an 18 month layoff, sensationally scored with his first touch of the game only 10 seconds after coming on. Craig Victory, very unselfishly squared the ball to Mayes as he slotted into an empty net. 5-1

Luke Mayes grabbed his first goal after slotting home from close range after another lay off from the creative Ross Webster. 6-1

The next move was started by Paul Pannell at the back, Luke Mayes took hold of the ball and after a long run which wasnt challenged he shot from distance. Although not appearing to be threat, the goalkeeper blunderd as he let the ball squirm thorugh his legs. 7-1

Robbins, in goal, produced a string of fine saves including a sensational double reflex save to prove he is fully back to his best after his injury.

Luke Mayes then completed the rout and his hattrick by sublimly curling the ball from distance through a crowd of players into the opposite corner of the goal. Assist went to Craig Victory. 8-1

Special mentions must go to defenders Leon Rider, Paul Pannell and keeper Ben Robbins who were collectively ultra impressive at the back to make sure the win was never in any doubt.
